Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will dedicate the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) at Chavara to the nation on July 23, said Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan, who visited the institute on Wednesday to appraise the arrangements.
“The institute, under the Department of Labour, will offer high-end courses in Construction Engineering with global standards. Most of the courses are based on information technology,” he said.
Daily operations
The Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), under the State Department of Labour and Skills, will handle the daily operations of the institute.
The main objective of KASE is to promote skill development to meet the demands of various industries globally. The business partner of the institute is Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd. (ULCCS), a labour cooperative society from Malabar.
In the first phase, seven courses would be offered and placement would be ensured for 60% of the students who complete the course, said KASE managing director Sreeram Venkataraman.
Techician-level courses
Technician-level courses offered by the institute include Certificate in Painting and Finishing Works, Advanced Certificate programme in Bar-bending and Steel fixing and Advanced Certificate in Housekeeping.
While the Advanced Certificate programme in Plumbing engineering is the course offered at the supervisory level, students can opt for managerial-level courses that include PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Architecture, PG Diploma in Advanced Construction Management and Graduateship programme for engineering graduates.
