The Kerala Council of Churches organised a seminar on environment conservation at the MMA High School at Maramon on Saturday.

Fr. Santhosh Mathew, KCC environment committee chairman, inaugurated the seminar. Thomas P. Thomas, Botany professor and environmentalist, delivered the keynote address.

Mr. Thomas said development was fast becoming a password for wanton destruction of nature and indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources. Even environmentalists and their scientific methods were dubbed ‘anti-developmental' by the government, he alleged.

A critical self-introspection and rethinking was necessary for correcting our ways. Disastrous consequences of uncontrolled exploitation of nature should be an eye-opener to all, he added.

Eapen Mathew, headmaster of MMA High School, K.K. Mathew, former KSEB chief engineer, Roy Nellikala, KCC programme co-ordinator, Shaji Madathilethu, convener, Rajan Varghese, convener, and Syril C. Mathew, joint convener, also spoke.
