Samagra Siksha to encourage art

The Malappuram Samagra Siksha has scored yet another first in the State by launching a programme to encourage the artistic talents of children and teachers alike.

P. Ubaidulla, MLA, inaugurated the programme titled Chitravi at Government Higher Secondary School, Pookkottoor, near here on Tuesday.

The Samagra Siksha is introducing select students to various forms of art, including pencil drawing, oil painting, water colour, acrylic, sketch, cartoon, collage, figure sketches and portraits.

Painting

Samagra Siksha district programme officer T.V. Mohanakrishnan said that the children would also be exposed to classics in painting, varieties of post-modernism, world famous artists, the legacy of Kerala and Indian art, mural painting, and so on.

He said that the students would get an opportunity to try their hand at glass painting and fabric painting as well.

Seven schools will be chosen for implementation of the Chitravi project in the initial year. Art galleries will be formed in those schools by including the paintings of children and teachers.

A painting exhibition was also arranged as part of the inaugural function.

District Panchayat vice president Sakeena Pulpadan presided.

District Panchayat health and education standing committee chairman V. Sudhakaran felicitated the artists.

Malappuram block panchayat president K. Saleena, Pookkoottoor panchayat president Safiya Manathodi, Samagra Siksha State programme officer C. Radhakrishnan Nair, Deputy Director of Education P. Krishnan, school principal K.V. Venugopalan, headmistress P.K. Subaida, Samagra Siksha programme officers T.V. Mohanakrishnan and P.S. Muraleedharan spoke.
