Child’s death: Rights panel seeks report from Railways

more-in

The State Human Rights Commission has registered a case, seeking a report from the divisional railway manager about an incident in which a child with heart ailment died during a train journey at Kuttippuram two days ago.

It was alleged that the parents of one-year-old Mariyam, who boarded Maveli Express without reservation on Wednesday night, were made to shift from bogey to bogey with the sick child by the ticket examiners.

It was also alleged that the ticket examiners did not show any mercy on the child.

On seeing the condition of the child, the passengers stopped the train by pulling the emergency chain at Kuttippuram. The child was shifted to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Rights Commission member K. Mohankumar, seeking a detailed report from Railways, said such incidents should not recur.
