Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan on Saturday criticised the continuing attacks on officers and establishments of the Nair Service Society which started after the NSS general secretary in-charge G. Sukumaran Nair criticised the Chief Minister. “It is not right. They should show self-restraint,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Achuthanandan was speaking to the media after receiving Rs. 5 crore contributed by the State-owned Plantation Corporation of Kerala for providing compensation to the victims of endosulfan sprayed by the Corporation. Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Retnakaran handed over the cheque for the amount.

Mr. Achuthanandan said that while the State had provided various assistance to the victims such as monthly pensions, the Centre was yet to show willingness to provide assistance for providing compensation recommended by the National Human Rights Commission.

He said that the money provided by the Corporation would be distributed to the victims shortly on receipt of applications.

Chairman of the Corporation T. J. Anjelos and Agriculture Secretary A. Jayatilak were among those present.
