The State Crime Branch on Saturday submitted to the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court II its charge sheet on the custodial death of law student from Bihar Satnam Singh at the State Mental Health Centre (SMHC) at Peroorkada here.

The charge sheet, submitted by Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Gopakumar, arraigns SMHC staff Anil Kumar as the first accused while Vivekanandan, a jailer deputed to the centre to watch over prisoners admitted there, is the second accused.

Prisoners admitted to the SHMC – Manjeesh, Biju, Sharath Prakash and Dileep – are the other accused in the case, which pertains to the death of Satnam Singh at the SHMC on August 4 after the Kollam police arrested him on August 2 on charges of attempting to create a ruckus at the Mata Amritanandamayi Math at Vallikavu in Kollam.

There are 79 witnesses, including Satnam Singh’s father and brother, 107 documents and 22 material objects as evidence apart from the statements of eight persons, including three doctors of SHMC, that were recorded earlier by a magistrate.
