Chandy implementing RSS agenda: Pinarayi

January 04, 2015 11:24 am | Updated 11:24 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of implementing the agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the State.

Inaugurating the public meeting held as part of the party district conference, which concluded at Charummoodu on Saturday, Mr. Vijayan alleged that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government had adopted a lenient attitude towards the Sangh Parivar, particularly the RSS.

Withdrawn case

Elaborating on his claim, he said that the government had withdrawn a case registered against RSS and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists who had attacked a police officer during a demonstration at MG College in Thiruvananthapuram.

The government had also withdrawn the case that was registered against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia for an inflammatory speech in the aftermath of the Marad riots.

“In both instances, the Chief Minister has owned the responsibility for having made the decisions,” he said.

The CPI(M) leader also criticised Mr. Chandy for showing scant regard for serious allegations of corruption that were raised against the government led by him.

Unnecessary

“The government has also deemed it unnecessary to initiate a probe into the allegations made by former Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar against the office of the Public Works Department. The MLA had also claimed to have evidence of graft against two Congress Ministers.

However, such claims were ignored despite being made in the Legislative Assembly,” he said.

Party leaders P.K. Sreemathi, G. Sudhakaran, Baby John, A. Vijayaraghavan, C.K. Sadasivan, C.B. Chandrababu, Saji Cheriyan and R. Nazar spoke on the occasion. Prior to the public meeting, a march was taken out by Red Volunteers across Charummoodu town.
