The government is planning to set up ‘good parenting centres’ in all districts with the aim of checking abuse and neglect of children by parents, Minister for Women and Child Development K.K. Shylaja has said.
She was delivering the keynote address at a workshop of law enforcement agencies in the sector here recently.
Call centres too
Call centres will be part of the units. Parents can contact the call centres to clarify doubts or communicate problems regarding caring for their children. They will also receive tips on how to care for children with various problems.
The centres will adopt a mix of traditional and modern ideas to care for children in a scientific manner. Child welfare committees (CWCs) will be in charge of the centres. The Minister said the centres would equip parents to fulfil their duties before and after the birth of a child.
POCSO court soon
The POCSO court in Ernakulam would become ready soon, she said.
The workshop decided to bring down the number of children reaching child-care institutions. Children will be accommodated in government care homes only on the basis of the report of CWCs.
A number of schemes such as adoption, foster care, sponsorship, after care, Kaava for reintegration of children in conflict with law, speedy disposal of POCSO cases and so on were discussed at the workshop.
Social Justice Special Secretary Biju Prabhakar was present.
