Newly elected Rajya Sabha Member K.K. Ragesh has said that he will focus on utilising Central government schemes for projects that suited distinctive features of different sectors in the State.

At a meet-the-press at the Press Club here on Monday, Mr. Ragesh said that there were various Central schemes that could be properly utilised for sectors such as handloom and tourism, if feasible projects could be submitted. His emphasis would be on accessing the Central funds for such concrete projects, he added.

Mr. Ragesh also said that the State government had to intervene to ensure that there was a comprehensive compensation package for owners of land required for development of the National Highway.

Mr. Ragesh said the Left’s voice in Parliament had acquired more relevance now because it offered an alternative to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
