The Alappuzha North police have registered a case against 15 people including an advocate after they allegedly prevented the arrest of an accused in a sexual assault case.

The police said that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by Munnar sub inspector Shyam Kumar. “The SI and two civil police officers reached Alappuzha to arrest an accused on April 1. They went to the office of Babu Joseph, advocate, near Alappuzha District Court after learning that the accused was there. But the advocate and others blocked the police officials and prevented them from discharging their duties,” said a police official. Meanwhile, Babu Joseph filed a private petition in the Alappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court seeking to register a criminal case against the Munnar SI and the two CPOs for attacking him and destroying equipment in his office. The court has issued summons to the police officers. He was also granted interim bail by a c0ourt in the case.
