The one-day campaign in areas under seven polling booths, where repolling was ordered by the Election Commission (EC) following the finding that bogus votes were cast there, ended peacefully on Friday barring isolated incidents.

The repolling was ordered in seven polling booths spread over the Kannur and Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituencies, including the booths at Pilathara, Pamburuthi and Dharmadam. The parties and candidates campaigned in the areas which will again go to the polls on Sunday.

At Pilathara in the Kalliasseri Assembly segment here which is part the Kasaragod constituency, there was clash between LDF and UDF workers when UDF candidate Rajmohan Unnithan reached there for campaign. The Congress accused the CPI(M) workers of manhandling him. The media crew of a TV channel also came under attack. The police said the situation was brought under control.

Pamburuthi also witnessed some bickering between CPI(M) and IUML workers when CPI(M) candidate P.K. Sreemathy arrived there for campaigning. When the party workers reached some households, IUML workers objected to male CPI(M) workers entering the houses saying that there were only women in those houses. There also the situation was brought under control with the intervention of party leadership.
