Call to speed up work on Sabari Rail

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

The action council championing the cause of the proposed Sabari Rail has asked the authorities to speed up the work on the project that was given the green signal by the Centre as far back as 1998.

Council convener K.R. Aravindakshan said on Thursday that any move to scuttle the proposal would have to be resisted as this project would play a key role in developing pilgrim tourism in the State.

It would be a boon to hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from other southern States. The project would also ensure easy access to the tomb of St. Alphonsa and other Christian pilgrimage centres, besides Vavar Palli at Erumeli and Thangal Paara near Vagamon, Muslim pilgrimage centres. they said.

The action council leaders want the leaders to review the Cabinet decision of December 4, 2013, which had decided against the project.
