District Collector N. Padmakumar has sought the cooperation of people to make observation of ‘dry day’ successful. He was addressing a meeting of officials and people’s representatives here on Saturday to chalk out measures to prevent outbreak of fever and other diseases generally found during monsoon season.
‘Dry day’ is being observed by taking measures to ensure that water does not get stagnated to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. The district administration is observing ‘dry days’ on Thursdays in offices and Fridays in schools. Sundays should be observed as ‘dry days’ at home, he said and urged officials to spread awareness on the importance of keeping premises of houses without stagnated water.
Speaking on the occasion, P. Thilothaman, MLA, said adequate number of doctors were not available at the Cherthala government hospital, affecting medicare services. He said dengue fever cases were found at Muhamma and demanded that medical department take special care to prevent spread of the fever there.
The district medical officer said an awareness drive was being conducted against rat fever. Though the district reported a death due to H1N1 infection recently, the medical department was able to contain the spread of it. Only one instance of H1N1 fever has been reported since then, officials said.
