Cabinet clears industrial policy

The Cabinet has cleared the industrial policy that seeks to ease procedures for granting clearances to investors and lays thrust on promoting private industrial estates.

The policy, cleared by the Cabinet on Wednesday after consultations with stakeholders, focusses on optimum utilisation of local resources and development of the micro, small and medium industries sector.

It aims at creating job opportunities through industrial development and initiating steps to make all public-sector undertakings profitable. It encourages NRIs, women, youth, and ex-servicemen to start industrial units. Land would be identified in Malabar for setting up natural gas-based units. Special attention would be given for setting up refuse management plants. The government would go ahead with the plans to take over Hindustan Newsprint Limited and BHEL-Electrical Machines Limited, Kasaragod, the policy says.
