Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday blamed the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government for the delay in commissioning the Kollam and Alappuzha bypasses on National Highway 47.

He said that UDF government had completed 30% of the work of both the bypasses at the time of remitting office. It had originally targeted commission of the Alappuzha bypass in September 2017 and the Kollam bypass in November 2017 and had also released funds for this purpose.

However, the work on these major roads got stalled owing to the lack of construction materials, with Kollam getting delayed by 14 months and Alappuzha by 20 months.

Mr. Chandy also released the relevant government orders issued during his term as Chief Minister and the numerous letters he had written to the Centre and the Planning Commission, finally leading to the government sanction for the implementation of the bypass work under the EPC model under the joint participation of the Centre and the State.
