The Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) is organising a three-day tour for small and medium tour operators as part of its initiative to create more job opportunities in the tourism sector in the north Malabar and to attract more tourists to the region.

The BRDC has been implementing various projects for job creation and tourism development activities in the region under the initiative named Small and Medium Industries Leveraging Experiential Tourism (SMiLE).

The three-day ‘SMiLE Ambassadors’ Tour’ will begin at the Bekal Club at Neeleswaram in Kasaragod on December 6. Already SMiLE entrepreneurs in Kannur and Kasaragod districts have come forward to provide tourism facilities including accommodation.

The corporation facilitated setting up of scores of Small and Medium Industries Leveraging Experiential Tourism (SMiLE) ventures involving aspiring entrepreneurs to set up experiential tourism-related infrastructure facilities including accommodation to tourists.

BRDC managing director T.K. Manzoor said that leading tour operators from different parts of the country were being involved in the three-day programme aimed at introducing experiential tourism in the region.

Objective

The objective was to introduce tourism destinations in the regions to showcase culture and tradition of the region.

Mr. Manzoor said that during the first two days of the three-day programme, the focus would be on Kasaragod district. On the last day on December 8, the BRDC would interact with stakeholders at the Chamber Hall here and with the officials of Kannur International Airport Ltd.

The MD said that the SMiLE initiative had been launched to cater to growing number of tourists who were visiting tourism destinations to see history and culture of the land. The tourism products being introduced in the region included ‘suranga’ in Kasaragod, which was a traditional water conservation system in the district.
