PM to give away awards at Republic Day celebrations

Ashwin Sajeev of Kottayam and Shikhil K. of Malappuram have been been selected for the President’s bravery award instituted by the Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give away the awards at the Republic Day celebrations.

Educational expenses

All future educational expenses of the children, including that for professional courses, will be borne by the ICCW, Kerala State Council for Child Welfare general secretary S.P. Deepak has said.

Ashwin Sajeev, a Class 4 student, rescued his friend Ashwin, a Class 2 student, from drowning. Ashwin Sajeev jumped into the Kollengeri canal and rescued him. Ashwin, a student of SKM Higher Secondary School, is the son of Sajeev, a painter, and Anila. Eight-year-old Shikhil got the award for rescuing one of two students who were drowning in the Chaliyar river. The other student died. Two days before the incident, Shikhil had rescued a Class 4 student.

Shikhil, a Class 4 student of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Keezhparambu, is the son of Surendran, a labourer, and Beena.
