Boy dies; food poisoning suspected

A nine-year-old boy, who was admitted to the district hospital here on Tuesday night owing to suspected food poisoning, passed away later in the night. Three other members of his family are still under treatment and out of danger.

The police said that the boy Abishek, his father Santosh Kumar, younger brother Anil and maternal uncle Vimal Kumar suddenly turned sick and began vomiting late in the evening on Tuesday. They were immediately taken to the hospital.

The reason for their illness is being investigated but preliminary tests suspected some form of food poisoning to be the cause, doctors said. The funeral rites of Abishek were performed in the compound of his house on Wednesday. He was a Class IV student at Karikode.
