The body of Susan Mathew, a 54-year-old nun, was found inside the well of Mount Tabor Convent at Pathanapuram, Kollam, on Sunday.
She had been working as as a teacher at the nearby St. Stephens School for several years. "The nun was under treatment for epilepsy and she had consulted doctors on Saturday as well. She seemed normal on Saturday night and had dinner with other inmates of the convent. Sunday morning when others went for morning mass, she stayed back saying she is not feeling well. When the other nuns returned from the church they found her body in the well. The cause of death is currently unknown," said B. Asokan, District Police Chief, Kollam Rural.
The autopsy will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and the police as of now is waiting for the nun's relatives to arrive. Reportedly, blood stains were found near the well and the deceased's room, hinting at the possibility of a murder, but police officials denied it.
"The forensic and fingerprint teams are currently working on the scene and the dog squad will reach shortly. Comments can be made only after getting the preliminary reports," said Mr. Asokan.
