BJP seeks probe into women’s temple entry

BJP State president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday demanded a judicial investigation into the incident where two women in their forties, breaching a ritualistic ban, entered the Sabarimala temple.

Complaints have arisen regarding the manner in which the women were escorted to the temple, Mr. Pillai said.

The State is facing a situation where law and order has broken down, he said, blaming the LDF government for spawning a crisis in the State.

He justified the Sabarimala tantri’s decision to close the shrine and perform purification rites. “It is the tantri who ensures that the customs and traditions of the temple are protected ,” he said.

He accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of misleading the public by distorting the facts surrounding the death of Chandran Unnithan, who died of injuries sustained in the clashes at Pandalam.

NIA probe

V.Muralidharan, MP, has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to engage the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for probing the alleged Maoist links of the two women who had darshan at Sabarimala on Wednesday morning.
