BJP allegations baseless, says CM

Asserting that the law and order situation in Kerala was outstanding, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Governor P.Sathasivam stating that the government had taken steps to maintain peace.

Responding to BJP MP, Poonam Mahajan’s letter to the Governor about the spate of attacks on BJP workers and women and children in Kerala, he said the district administration had been directed to organise peace talks whenever any violence was reported.

The Governor had sent a copy of the petition to Mr.Vijayan.

In his reply, the Chief Minister said the MP had alleged the murder of 19 RSS and BJP workers and 1,300 cases of attacks on women and children since the LDF came to power in Kerala.

This, he said, was in variance with another letter from O.Rajagopal, MLA, who had alleged that 14 BJP workers had been killed in attacks. Mr.Vijayan said the allegations raised by both the BJP leaders were baseless.

He said a survey conducted by the Public Affairs Centre had placed Kerala and Tamil Nadu as the best States in maintaining law and order while India Today had ranked Kerala the first.
