: Bishop Emeritus M.M. Mani, former head of the Madhya Kerala diocese of the Church of South India (CSI), passed away at noon on Tuesday. He was 87.
Bishop Mani was keeping indifferent health for some time and was recently admitted to a private hospital here.
Bishop Mani was one of the longest serving bishops of the diocese and led his flock as its head during 1981-1993.
Born on July 3, 1928, Bishop Mani is the son of M.P. Chacko and Mary Chacko of Modayil House, Nedumgadappally. After taking his B.A. degree from Madras Christian College, he joined theological studies at United Theological College, Bengaluru.
He joined the service of the Church in 1956 as a deacon. He was elected the fourth Bishop of the Madhya Kerala diocese in 1981. He had been leading a retired life at his house at Kanjikkuzhy since 1993.
According to Church authorities, Bishop Mani’s funeral will be held at 12 noon on Thursday at CSI Cathedral, Chalukunnu. A widower, he leaves behind five children.
