In connection with rape, cheating case

Binoy Kodiyeri, 37, son of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala, presented himself before the Station House Officer, Oshiwara police station, Mumbai, on Monday for being interrogated in connection with a rape and cheating case registered against him in June.

The Maharashtra police had indicted Binoy for rape and cheating after a former bar dancer in Dubai had complained that he had cheated her into a long connubial relationship promising marriage.

She alleged that they had a child from the nine-year-old union.

Dindoshi Additional Sessions Judge M.H. Shaikh, who granted anticipatory bail for Binoy in the case last week, had ordered the accused to subject himself to a DNA test to verify the woman’s claim that he was the biological father of her child. He directed Binoy to be present at the Oshiwara police station between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on all Mondays for one month.

Survivor to move HC

The woman told reporters that she would move the Mumbai High Court against the decision to grant anticipatory bail to Binoy.

Binoy’s counsel had dispelled her claim and said the case against his client was the fallout of a failed bid on the part of the woman and her shadowy supporters to blackmail the politician’s son.
