District Collector, who is also the Electoral Officer, has said the Election Commission will disqualify those candidates who spend more than the prescribed limits for elections.
Expenditure limit for a candidate contesting in district panchayat is Rs.60,000. The expenses for each candidate in the block panchayat and grama panchayat will be Rs.30,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively. It will be Rs.30,000 for a candidate in the municipal election.
The Collector has declared holiday on November 5 for government offices and educational institutions in the district on account of elections. The offices and institutions, which are the polling centres, will have holidays on November 4 and 5.
Liquor outlets should be closed from 5 p.m. on November 3 to 5 p.m. on November 5 and also on November 7 when voting will take place.
The Collector has asked political parties not to indulge in propaganda hurting religious sentiments or threatening social security. Character assassination through public speech or social media amounts to violation of model code.
Seeking votes on the basis of religion or caste is prohibited. The Collector has also asked political parties to avoid use of flex boards for propaganda.
