District Collector P.B. Noohu has extended the prohibitory orders clamped on Sabarimala, Pampa, Nilackal and Elavumkal under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code by nine more days to January 14 midnight.

According to an official statement here on Saturday, the decision to extend the prohibitory orders, which was supposed to end on Saturday midnight, has been made on the basis of the reports received in this regard from the District Police Chief and Additional District Magistrate at Sabarimala.

Mr. Noohu said the report submitted by the DPC hinted at the possibility of young women visiting Sabarimala during the Makaravilakku pilgrim season and chances of protests against them.

The Collector’s order prohibits unlawful and illegal assembly of people, staging of protests, marches, public meetings, and road blockade from Elavumkal to Sannidhanam.

However, the prohibitory orders would not be applicable to Ayyappa devotees undertaking pilgrimage either alone or in groups. There would not be any restrictions on chanting `Sarana-ghoshom or `Naamajapom’ by devotees, the order said.
