Ban on sale of liquor during bypoll

The government has banned sale liquor in Ernakulam district and nearby areas of the Piravom constituency from 5 p.m. on March 15 to 5 p.m. on March 17 in view of the byelection to the Assembly. A ban will be in force on the counting day (March 21) also.

No campaign would be permitted in connection with the byelection from 5 p.m. on March 15 to 5 p.m. on March 17. An official release from the Election Department here on Friday said this would apply to public meetings, announcements, discussions in the media, debates, and opinion polls.

Voters would have to produce photo identity cards to cast their votes. Those who could not produce identity cards should produce the voter slip issued by the Election Commission, the release said.
