‘Back to Backwaters’ to pep up tourism

Houseboat rally among events

In a bid to rejuvenate the flood-hit backwater tourism sector, the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will organise ‘Back to Backwaters’ programme in Alappuzha on November 2.

As part of the initiative, houseboat rally, photo exhibition, bike rally, and cultural programmes will be conducted. The programmes will commence with the a bike rally from the Alappuzha beach to the houseboat terminal at Punnamada at 8 a.m.

An photo exhibition based on the recent floods will be organised at the houseboat terminal at 10 a.m. Later in the day, a houseboat rally with 225 houseboats and 100 shikara boats will be held on Vembanad Lake.

It will be flagged off by Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran at 11 a.m. Organisers said that those who wish to participate in the houseboat rally should register their names with the DTPC office near Alappuzha boat jetty.

The registered people are entitled to three hours of houseboat cruising free of cost, officials added.
