“Ayurveda has vital role in State’s healthcare”

Country’s first sports Ayurveda hospital opened in Thrissur

Ayurveda has played a vital role in the achievements made by the State in the health sector, Chief Minister Pinaryai Vijayan has said.

He was inaugurating the Kerala Institute of Sports Ayurveda and Research Centre and Oushadi Panchakarma Hospital and Research Institute here on Saturday.

“The system of Ayurveda is vast. Some may feel the system illogical. But we cannot judge things blindly. People should be open to gathering knowledge from all fields. Panchakarma and massage are specialities of Kerala. However, they are the most underutilised treatment methods. We need trained practitioners in those areas. Self medication is dangerous even in Ayurveda,” he said.

The Sports Ayurveda and Research Centre was constructed at a cost of ₹9 crore. Interestingly, it is the first sports Ayurveda hospital in the country. An amount of ₹8 crore has been spent on the Oushadi Panchakarma Hospital. Health Minister K.K. Shylaja presided over the function.

Minister for Local Self Governments A.C. Moideen inaugurated the administrative block. Indian Systems of Medicine director Anitha Jacob presented report. Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and District Medcal Officer (Ayurveda) R.S. Shibu also spoke.
