Recent developments related to the desecration of the bust of P. Krishna Pillai at Kannarkat have shown the CPI (M) in a bad light.

This was stated in the organisational report presented at the party’s district conference that got under way at Charummoodu on Thursday.

‘Crisis’

Justifying its decision to expel those who were charge-sheeted in the case, the district committee said the accused had been warned in the past for involvement in activities that went against the interests of the party. The attack on the memorial had pushed the party into a serious crisis, and circumstance called for strong action for the “unpardonable” offence.

Vote bank erosion The report introspected upon the losses suffered by the party in the district during the recent general elections.

It called for a serious study of the reasons behind the leak in vote bank in certain places that were regarded as strongholds of the party.

It was a matter of concern that the party was unable to maintain the good performance shown in the 2011 Assembly elections, it said.

In recent times, the party had suffered from internal divisions during the area conferences, especially those held at Aroor and Kanjikuzhy. Elections were conducted to nine of the 17 area committees. Certain guidelines of the party were violated in some instances.

Those who were part of official panels were defeated in Ambalapuzha, Mavelikara, Kuttanad, and Haripad. Similarly, elections were required in 33 of the total 140 local conferences. Certain members had demonstrated a lack of cooperation with the activities of the party, the report said.
