The Wayanad district cooperative bank, with the financial support of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), has launched a technology demonstration mobile unit in the district for disseminating financial inclusion literacy among rural folk.

The first such customised mobile vehicle in the State has been set up with all modern banking facilities and the unit would reach all remote villages in the district on a fixed day to be scheduled for the purpose.

The project envisages sensitising rural people, especially tribespeople, on modern banking services, Ramesh Tenkil, Chief General Manager, NABARD, said.

An ATM on wheels with core banking facilities is the major cynosure of the unit. The mobile unit would demonstrate the entire modern technology of banking promotion activities such as Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS), Direct Benefit Fund Transfer (DBT), National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) and Electronic Clearing System (ECS) to the public, N.S. Sajikumar, District Development Manager, NABARD said.

The total cost incurred for the project is Rs.18 lakh, including Rs.10 lakh as NABARD grant. The entire equipment relating to banking technology in the air-conditioned vehicle runs on solar energy.

The unit is also fully equipped with LED TV with sound system for training facilities and other awareness programmes.
