Assembly session from January 25

The 14th session of the Assembly would be held from January 25.

A meeting of the Cabinet here on Thursday decided to recommend the Governor to convene the session from January 25.

A subcommittee led by Culture Minister A.K. Balan has been formed for celebrating the 1,000th day of the formation of the Cabinet on February 18. Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, Water Resources Minister K. Krishnankutty, Ports Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran and Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran are the members.

Financial assistance

The government would give a financial assistance of ₹150 crore each to Kannur and Calicut Universities and ₹132.75 crore to Mahatma Gandhi University.

Legislation planned

A legislation will be framed to entrust all appointments to the Travancore Cochin Medical Council, except the posts of registrar and deputy registrar, with the Public Service Commission. The Cabinet also approved the draft Bill.

It also decided to waive off loans to the tune of ₹85.47 lakh sanctioned to 3,496 beneficiaries of the Kabani River Valley Project in Wayanad that was implemented in 1998-99. With interest and penal interest it had touched ₹1.17 crore. The beneficiaries had suffered crop loss due to natural calamities and hence the decision.
