Aruvikkara records 76.31% voter turnout

June 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:34 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Despite heavy rain, the electorate of Aruvikkara turned out in large numbers to vote in the by-election in this Assembly constituency on Saturday.

According to preliminary figures of the State Election Commission, the polling percentage has touched an all-time high of 76.31. Heavy rain in the post-noon session did not deter voters from lining up in front of polling booths to exercise their franchise. Polling was peaceful and reflected a high level of maturity of the electorate. The higher percentage of polling is admittedly the outcome of the high-voltage three-week campaign that this rural constituency witnessed in a three-cornered fight.
