Arrangements under way for CPI(M) State meet

Arrangements were apace for conducting the State conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] from February 20 to 23 at Alappuzha, reception committee general secretary G. Sudhakaran, MLA, said on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Mr. Sudhakaran said the delegates’ session and the public meeting would be held at Yeskay Convention Centre, Kalarkode, and E.M.S. Stadium, Alappuzha, respectively. Prior to the valedictory session, 25,000 red volunteers will participate in a march and another 1 lakh members will take out a rally across the town.

Trial parades of the red volunteers will be organised at 15 area centres in the district on January 30.

Mr. Sudhakaran said an amount of nearly Rs. 70 lakh had been generated for the conference as of yet through contributions collected from party members and people’s representatives.

The party will seek the assistance of affluent supporters in case it failed to generate the required amount for organising the four-day programme. Mr. Sudhakaran, however, added that the party would not request support from loan sharks, owners of resorts and real estate entities that functioned in violation of norms, and anti-social groups. The party will not use plastic festoons and flex boards.

Mr. Sudhakaran added that 24 seminars would be organised in various parts of the district. Leaders of various political organisations and experts in diverse fields are expected to participate in the discussions. Nearly 600 delegates are expected to participate in the various sessions of the State conference.

Party district secretary Saji Cheriyan, district secretariat member R. Nazar and area secretaries V.B. Ashokan and H. Salam were also present at the press conference.
