An anti-defacement squad removes unauthorised election campaign posters and hoardings in Kottayam on Tuesday.

Even as the campaigns for the local body elections gather momentum, the anti-defacement squads have intensified their operations.

On Tuesday, they have pulled down more than 500 unauthorised hoardings, posters, and flex boards put up by candidates in Chingavanom, Nattakom, Pallom, Thirunakkara, Baker Junction, KSRTC bus stand, Manippuzha and Mooledom.

The posters put up on the boards placed by institutions, government offices, boards placed by PWD, signboards, culverts and telephone and electric posts have been removed.

The operations of the Kottayam taluk level squad was led by Divya S. Iyer, Assistant Collector.
