Anti-defacement squad formed

District Collector N. Padmakumar, who is also the District Electoral Officer, has said action will be taken against those who violate the model code of conduct being implemented as part of the local self-government elections.

The monitoring cell has been examining such cases. An anti-defacement squad has been formed. Complaints received by the officials have been examined and action initiated. Incidents of misuse of official vehicle for poll propaganda have come to the notice of authorities. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on Thursday. Withdrawal of nominations could be done till October 17. A total of 2,967 nominations were received till Wednesday. It included 2,695 nominations for grama panchayats, 36 for block panchayats, 36 for district panchayats, and 200 for municipal wards.
