Amrita math undertakes cleaning drive at Sabarimala

Amala Bharatam volunteers of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math engaged in cleaning drive at Pampa on Sunday.  

Amala Bharatam volunteers of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (MAM) completed the two-day cleaning drive at Sabarimala, Pampa and the traditional trekking path on Sunday afternoon.

The MAM launched the two-day intensive cleaning drive at Sabarimala on Saturday.

As many as 2,000 volunteers, including overseas activists, of the Amala Bharatam project of the Math took part in the cleaning drive held at the holy hillock, according to Gurudas Chaitanya who has been co-ordinating the work.

The volunteers made hectic efforts to clear the entire waste accumulated at the Sannidhanam and along the banks of river Pampa.


The segregation of degradable and recyclable waste was also done by the volunteers.

Incineration of the waste collected from different parts of the Sannidhanam and Pampa is progressing at the TDB waste dumping yards.

The Amala Bharatam team carried out intensive cleaning drive at the lower Tirumuttom, Nadapanthal, copra yard, police barracks, Bhasmakkulam (temple pond), premises of Devaswom quarters, Paandithavalam, pilgrim shelters, on Saturday.

A medical team, with well-equipped ambulance, from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was also camping at Pampa, Gurudas Chaitanya said.

This is for the seventh time the Amala Bharathom team has been undertaking the cleaning programme at Sabarimala. P. Venkita Rangan, Vice-Chancellor of Amrita Deemed University, and District Collector S. Harikishore also took part in the cleaning drive.
