The ‘I am for Alleppey’ social media campaign has come to the aid of flood-hit anganwadis in the district.

Alappuzha Subcollector Krishna Teja said that Telugu actor Allu Arjun had offered help for repairing and renovating 10 anganwadis. “Allu Arjun during his visit to Alappuzha as the chief guest of Nehru Trophy Boat Race in November conveyed his willingness to be part of the rebuilding process. The actor has adopted 10 flood-hit anganwadis in the district. The anganwadis will be renovated at a cost of ₹21 lakh,” Mr. Teja said.

Rebuilding process

The campaign was launched in September to help rebuild the flood-hit district. Since then, it has launched an array of initiatives.

Recently, around 300 differently abled people have been distributed customised wheelchairs, clutches and other items at ₹20 lakh received through sponsorships.

A large number of people have joined the campaign by donating money for rebuilding damaged hospitals, anganwadis and other public institutions in the district. As part of an initiative titled Green Rehabilitation, four lakh saplings will be planted in the district in the next seven months.

Those who want to be part of the initiative can visit the Facebook page of I am for Alleppey and register their names.
