Minister presents educational and sports awards

Coastal areas are lagging behind in education and projects should be envisaged to address their educational backwardness, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said.

He was distributing the educational and sports awards instituted by the Kerala Fishermen’s Welfare Fund Board (KFWFB) here on Sunday. “The Welfare Fund Board and others should come up with projects to improve learning atmosphere outside the schools,” Dr. Isaac said.

Better facilities

The Minister said that the State government had taken steps to improve facilities in schools in coastal areas. “We need to improve out-of-school learning experiences. College students can be used as mentors,” Dr. Isaac added.

KFWFB chairman C.P. Kunhiraman presided.

Matsyafed chairman P.P. Chitharanjan, district panchayat welfare committee chairman K.T. Mathew, and others attended the function.
