Achuthanandan strikes a different note on Thettayil

June 27, 2013 12:12 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:49 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has struck a different note on the question of Janata Dal (Secular) legislator Jose Thettayil’s resignation over allegations of sexual misdemeanour.

‘Thettayil will have to take the right decision. I have already expressed my hope that he would do so,” Mr. Achuthanandan told a news conference here on Wednesday.

The Left Democratic Front did not conclude that he did not resign. The LDF leadership did not discuss the issue though some did express their views on the issue. The LDF had only left it to the Janata Dal (Secular) to take a decision on the matter. It is not the LDF’s practice to impose decisions on its constituents, Mr. Achuthanandan said.

When pointed out that the JD(S) position was that Mr. Thettayil need not resign, Mr. Achuthanandan retorted that the difference of perceptions on such issues had become clear even when former Minister A. Neelalohithadasan Nadar faced similar charges. Nobody can ignore the growing resentment of the people in Kerala and across the country following the rape of the Delhi girl, he added.
