Accused attacks jail officers

One of the accused in Sunday’s violence at Arpookara, who was remanded to the Kottayam sub-jail attacked five prison officials, injuring two of them.

According to the police, assistant prison officers, R. Pramod and Retheesh V. Nair have been admitted to the General Hospital with face injuries. The attack was unleashed by Mithun Thomas (27) one of the accused in the attack at Angadippadi at Arpookara in which two persons were injured when a five-member gang threw crackers and tried to attack local people. The gang was arrested by the local police and remanded to sub jail.

However, on Tuesday morning, Mithun refused to cooperate with the authorities during roll call and was taken to the office of the Jail Superintendent where he attacked the assistant prison officers.
