A State-wide educational bandh sponsored by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday turned violent at the Durga Higher Secondary School here.
The police arrested three ABVP activists, including its district president, in connection with the incident.
The protesters, seeking resignation of Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb over delay in supplying textbooks, smashed the door of the Principal’s office. Two senior lady teachers and three students fell unconscious when the mob turned against them.
Teachers manhandled
Defying the police presence on the school premises, the agitators barged into the office room through the closed main gate. The scene occurred around 12 noon when the agitators, seeking suspension of classes for the day, engaged in heated altercation and allegedly manhandled the teachers when they refused to heed their demand.
In the over-an-hour commotion, the protesters vandalised doors and windows attached to the office of Principal M.K. Basmathi and headmaster H. Srihari Bhat.
Furniture damaged
The agitators smashed the school telephone and furniture. They also received outside support from Bharatiya Masdoor Sangh (BMS) and BJP local leaders.
The mob did not spare even the PTA office-bearers of the school. The police rounded up ABVP district president Vaishakh Keloth from the school and two other activists from the Principal’s cabin.
