Absence from poll duty: action initiated

October 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - IDUKKI:

The district administration has initiated action against officials for unauthorised absence from election duty.

District Collector V. Ratheesan handed over the list of officials who abstained from duty to the Superintendent of Police on Thursday for arrest and legal action .

The final list of persons facing legal action would be released soon, said the Collector, who is the chief electoral officer.

Candidates could use the electronic media for election campaign, he said, adding that they could send SMSs seeking votes.

Such messages, however, should not contain any negative reference of the opponents. Such messages would be monitored and complaints, if any, would be received at the election room in the collectorate.

Mr. Ratheesan said that women sectoral officers would be given assistants.
