Youth commission to be formed soon

The government will constitute a State Youth Commission on the lines of the National Youth Commission for protecting the rights of the youth, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar has said.

Replying to questions in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Vijayakumar said a law will be framed for giving statutory powers to the Commission.

The next youth forum will be held in Malappuram.

A separate department will be carved out for Sports and Youth Welfare during the tenure of the government.

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said a study conducted by the Centre for Water Resource Development and Management had found that 80 per cent of domestic wells were contaminated.

A mechanism for ensuring the quality of bottled drinking water sold in the State is under consideration, the Minister said.
