July 21, 2010 08:09 pm | Updated 08:09 pm IST - KATTAPPANA:

With heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Idukki reservoir for the past three days, water level has increased to a considerable level. An official at the Dam Monitoring Cell at Cheruthoni said that there was good inflow through the main tributary, the Periyar, and the water level on Wednesday was 2,338.06 ft. The water level, however, was lesser compared to that on the same day last year, which stood at 2,340 ft. The rainfall recorded on Tuesday in the catchment area was 8 cm, which was 3 to 4 cm on Wednesday.

The shutters of the Lower Periyar and Kallarkutty dams were raised on Tuesday and they remain raised, though the water outflow was considerably less on Wednesday, he said.
