Vijayadashami marking the triumph of good over evil was celebrated with religious fervour in the Central Travancore district of Pathanamthitta on Monday.
Special pujas were performed at various places of worship as well as Navaratri mandapams, schools and cultural centres as part of the Vidyarambhom ceremony held as part of the celebrations in the forenoon.
Hundreds of tiny tots were initiated into the world of learning at the auspicious Vidyarambhom ceremony held in different parts of the district.
Noted poet, Ezhacherry Ramachandran, Fr Mathew Daniel, former principal of Kozhenchery Thomas College and Mr. V.K. Narayanan, litterateur, led the Vidyarambhom ceremony at the Muloor S. Padmanabha

Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, led the Vidyarambhom ceremony held at Mar Thoma Lower Primary School at Chirayirambu near Kozhencherry in the forenoon.
Initiation of foreign students into the world of various classical dance forms and music was a unique programme at Chilanka Akademi for Dance and Music at Aranmula. Renowned Kathakali artiste, Fact Mohan and wife, Kalamandalam Sreedevi Mohan, led the ceremony.
