Students firm on demand: Kanam

January 30, 2017 09:15 pm | Updated 09:15 pm IST - KOCHI:

The striking students are not opposing the political affiliation of Principal of Kerala Law Academy Law College Lakshmi Nair but her actions against them, said Kanam Rajendran, State Secretary of the Communist Party of India.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Mr. Rajendran said the students were united in their demand for the removal of Ms. Nair. The CPI need not intervene in the issue, as the government was looking into the various developments at the college, he said.

The CPI leader said the Left Democratic Front would discuss the issues connected with the Law Academy.

Mr. Rajendran was making the inaugural address at the M.K. Ayappanmaster memorial meet here.

He said the country was witnessing the presence of Ministers, who claimed that speaking against the Prime Minister was equivalent to speaking against the country. “Corporate interests are ruling the governments in this age of globalisation. It will be difficult to point out that the country has developed when the common man continues to live in misery,” he said.

Mr. Rajendran presented the M. K. Ayappanmaster Foundation award to Majnu Komath, activist. S. Sarma, MLA, gave away the citation. K. S. Radhakrishnan, former chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission, delivered the memorial address.
