Special batches in polytechnics sought

The All Kerala Parents' Association of Hearing Impaired has urged the government to allot special batches for the hearing impaired in polytechnic colleges in the State.

A press release here on Monday said the association had been pleading with the government for the past four years to accomplish the need.

C.K. Abdul Salam, president of the organisation, said the appointment of resource persons in polytechnics to take up the role of interpreters was indefinitely delaying. “The government should understand the fact that the hearing impaired gets only limited options for continuing their studies in the higher education sector,” he added.

A.G. Babu, general secretary of the organisation, requested the government to take immediate measures to appoint the required number of resource persons in polytechnics. The technicalities should be cleared at the earliest to avail the benefit of special batch during this academic year, he added.
