Six boats conducting tourist services in the Mullaperiyar lake in Thekkady have received fitness certificates with a direction to limit the number of travellers. Boat services in Thekkady had been cancelled following a boat tragedy on September 30 which killed 45 people.

A patrolling boat and a tourist boat of the forest department received fitness certificates, said a top official of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. However, he also said that no direction regarding the re-launching of the tourist services in the lake had been received. Four boats owned by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation also received certificates after reviewing the security arrangements in the boats that conduct the tourism services.
