Police have given direction to the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and Hydel Tourism on the safety measures to be taken with immediate effect while conducting boat services in Kundala and Mattupetty lake.

The notice issued from the DySP office at Munnar include non-inclusion of more persons than the permitted number; wearing of life jackets by the passengers and staff; ensuring that the boat in service has the necessary fitness certificates and licences.

It also said that drunk drivers should not be allowed to conduct services; the driver should operate within the speed limits, and separate yards should be used for passengers boarding and alighting.

Near the boat yard, a protection wall should be made for the safety of tourists. The direction was issued by Munnar DySP P.V. Chacko to DTPC and Hydel Tourism as they conduct the tourism services in the two lakes in Munnar.
