The habit of reading should grow beyond the level of mere entertainment to arouse the real sense of direction within one's mind, writer U.A. Khader has said.

He was inaugurating a district-level ‘Readers Week' observance, organised under the aegis of the Information and Public Relations Department, here on Saturday.

Mr. Khader said “people rectify the value of human relations cutting across barriers of caste when readers converse with the author through the art of reading”. We should not crave for a kind of reading that satiates only the peripheral purposes, he said.

K. Chandran, standing committee chairman on Development, presided. RDO K.P. Ramadevi delivered the keynote address. District Information Officer P.K. Kunhabdulla welcomed the gathering and K. Rajan, Assistant Education Officer, proposed a vote of thanks.
